Men oppose sexual harassment Bill, term it anti-male legislation

Men’s rights groups have opposed to the proposed Bill which seeks to protect women, including those employed as domestic workers, from sexual harassment at workplace terming it as an “anti-male legislation.” 

On Monday, Lok Sabha had passed the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Bill, 2010, drafted by Krishna Tirath, minister of women and child development without discussion despite uproar from BJP members.
Right groups raised concerns about passing of the Bill without consulting male representatives.

“There are times when we find that there is unwanted feminine attention which is overwhelming and discomforting. Further worse, pervert social mindsets force male victims to keep quiet,” said Atit, president of Men’s Rights Association, a rights group.

Swarup Sarkar, member of a rights group pointed out that based on presentations made by men’s rights organisations, the parliamentary standing committee on human resources development had also recommended that the law should be made gender-neutral and men should also be provided equal protection.

“We fail to understand the problem in making the law gender-neutral, for, if women do not harass men, then there would be no complaints filed against them,” he said.

Activists alleged that even they face harassment in the form of lewd remarks about their dressing sense and bold comments about their physical appearance among others.

“When we filed an RTI to inquire about the WCD ministry’s stand on this issue, the ministry replied by saying ‘protection of men is not our mandate’,” added Sarkar.

The male population also fears society’s rejection towards their complaints about harassment. They are demanding that the present draft Bill must be re-drafted by the ministry of law and the government should form a national commission for men. In addition to that, a ministry of men welfare as well.

However, women groups argue that till women-centric laws are not implemented properly, gender inequalities will persist.

EVEN IF ANY FEMALE COLLEAGUE OR JUNIOR DISOBEYS OR INSULT SENIOR MALES CAN NOT DO ANYTHIN BECAUSE IN WCD BILL EVERYTHING IS FOR WOMEN AND YOU HAVE TO PROVE YOURSELF INNOCENT. ANY FAKE OR FRIEND OF THAT FEMALE WILL IMMEDIATELY GIVE STATEMENT AGAINST YOU AND YOU HAVE TO FACE CONSEQUENCES IN ANY FORM. MALES WHO ARE WORKING AS SUPERIORS OR HOD OR IN EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTE ARE BLACKMAILED FOR THE SAME ELSE THEY ARE THREATENED WITH DIRE CONSEQUENCES. MISUSE OF 498A BILL HAS ALREADY BEEN LOOKED EVEN BY SUPREME COURT THAT FEMALES ARE TAKING UNDUE ADVANTAGES OF THEIR FIAR SEX. EITHER YOU HAVE TO KEEP QUIET AND LET NO I PROVEMNT OCCUR AT YOUR WORK PLACE FOR EVER FEAR OF BEING FALSLY IMPLICATED IN SHC. I MY SELF HAS BEEN A VICTIM OF THIS AS WHEN A JUNIOR SHOUTED IN FRONT OF ALL CATEGOTRIES OF STAFF AND WHEN I COMPLAINED TO HIGHER AUTHORITIES, IMMEDIATELY NO ACTION WAS TAKEN AGAINST HER , RATHER SHE PUT FALSE AND ALL KIND OF DIRTY BLAMES ON ME AND I HAVE TO FACE ENQUIRY. ANY FAKE WITNESS EITHER HER FRIEND OR BY GIVING ANYONE MONEY ONE CAN GIVE WITNESS AGAINST YOU AAND YOU THEN CAN NOT DEFEND FOR YOURSELF AS THE WCD BILL IS 1000000000000000% GENDER BIASED AND TILL DATE TAKES DIRECTIONS FROM VISHAKHA GUIDELINES. YOU HAVE TO PROVE YOURSELF INNOCENT, ELSE YOU ARE TRAPPED TO ANY EXTENT. RATHER A BILL OR LAW SHOULD BE MADE WHERE IT SHOULD BE CLEARLY MENTIONED THAT ANY COMMUNICATION BY ANY MEANS WILL BE IN PRESENCE OF CAMERA, CCTV OR IN FRONT OF HEAD OF THE INSTITUE WHICH IS RATHER IMPOSSIBLE. BUT CCTV AT ALL VULNERABLE PLACE CAN ALWAYS HELP BECAUSE THEN FEMALE WILL ALSO HAVE TO THINK 10000000000000 TIMES BEFORE PUTTING FALSE ALLEGATIONS AGAINST THEIR SENIORS, JUNIORS OR COLLEAGUES. AND IF ACCUSED IS PROVED INNOCENT THEN FEMALE PUNISHMENT SHOULD BE MADE INN SUCH A WAY THAT SHE HAS TO THINK INNUMERABLE NUMBER OF TIMES BEFORE SHE CAN EVEN USE SIMPLE PEN AND PAPER WHICH IS SO SIMPLE FOR HER WRONG AND FILTHY THOUGHTS BUT THAT SIMPLE COMPLAINT IS TAKEN AT FIRST HAND BY SEXUAL HARRASSMENT COMMITTEE RATHER THEN YOUR COMPLAINT IF YOU HAVE COMPALIINED AGAINST HER AAND SEXUAL HARRASSMENT IS IMMEDIATE COUNTER REPLY TO YOUR COMPLAINT AND EVERY WRONG BEHAVIOUR SHEE HAS DONE OR RMARKS MADE TO HER SENIOR WILL EITHER BE NOT TAKEN OR TAKEN IN SUCH A WAY THAT SHE IS PROTECTED. THIS KIND OF FEAR IS PREVAILING EVERYWHERE AMONGST MALES WHERE THEY WORK AND 100% OF MY COLLEAGUES SAYS LEAVE IT ELSE YOU WILL BE IN TROOUBLE. CCTV CAMERAS ARE ONLY ANSWER WHICH SHOULD BE PLACED AT EVERY OFFICE, WORKING PLACES AT VULNERABLE AREAS. EACH FEMALE SHOULD BE INSTRUCTED NOT TO ENTER THE ROOM WITH AUTHORISED STAFF BY THAT WORKING PLACE.
