Strongly oppose Sachin Tendulkar’s nomination to Rajya Sabha

In 2010, Sachin Tendulkar, the so-called cricketing legend of India, supported a sweeping statement that one in 3 women in India face domestic violence.

There is no basis for such data. On the other hand, genuine statistics of men facing domestic violence are suppressed. Cricket may be a passion in India and Sachin has millions of followers and fans who look up to his cricketing skills and adore him. This puts him at a responsible position and he must be very careful with the stands he takes publicly and the statements that he makes.

Now, that his appointment to Rajya Sabha is approved, I strongly oppose it and condemn the Indian Government for appointing him merely because he is a celebrity who takes partisan stands without verifying facts. He can be terribly dangerous for governance. And moreover, what contribution has Sachin made to the society in true terms? He has just played a sports well, that’s it. There are many other deserving candidates than Sachin for the post.

Sachin Tendulkar must not be appointed to the Rajya Sabha.
